2027 Elections: Nigerian Youth Coalition Rejects Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai, Others as Unfit Alternatives
A prominent youth advocacy group, the Nigerian Youths Coalition Initiative, has strongly rejected the newly formed political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and others are not credible alternatives for Nigeria’s leadership in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Victor Thompson, convener of the coalition, described the alliance as an “unpatriotic political adventure” aimed at manipulating Nigerian youth for selfish political gains. He criticized the ADC for attempting to co-opt youth movements and warned political parties to stop using young people as tools for political thuggery.
“It must never be said that Nigerian youths stood with the same politicians who have repeatedly failed this nation,” Thompson stated.
The coalition labeled the new political alignment as a “coalition of doom and darkness,” alleging that its leading figures have a track record of betrayal, economic mismanagement, and divisive leadership.
The group emphasized that Nigeria’s future must be shaped by a new generation of leaders not by those who have held power for decades with little to show for it.
“We will resist any attempt to drag Nigerian youths into another cycle of recycled leadership,” Thompson said.
As part of its action plan, the Nigerian Youths Coalition announced upcoming sensitization campaigns, youth rallies, and training programs ahead of off-cycle and 2027 general elections, aimed at curbing electoral violence and empowering young Nigerians to lead the democratic process.
The coalition also issued a stern warning to political elites:
“Stop using our name to push your sinister ambitions. If this persists, expect a massive youth resistance.”
