2027 Elections: Wike Blasts ADC Coalition, Says They’re Fighting for Their Stomachs, Not Nigeria
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has slammed members of the newly formed political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing them of lacking ideology and pursuing selfish interests ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the statement during a thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 6, at St. James Anglican Church, Asokoro, Abuja. The event was held to celebrate the successful commissioning of 17 projects in the FCT.
According to the minister, many of the coalition leaders have a long history of party-switching and are driven by personal gain rather than national interest.
“In 1999, you’re in one party. In 2006, another party. By 2014, you moved again. In 2019, you returned somewhere else. Now in 2025, you’re moving to another party again to rescue who? No, you want to rescue your stomach, not Nigeria,” Wike said in a viral video from the church event.
The comments came days after prominent politicians across party lines launched a coalition under the ADC platform to challenge the ruling APC in the 2027 elections. The coalition named former Senate President David Mark as interim national chairman and ex-Minister Rauf Aregbesola as interim national secretary.
Attendees at the launch included ex-APC chairman John Oyegun, former Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, and former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi.
Wike reiterated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the President’s administration as results-driven.
During the thanksgiving, Wike revealed that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (formerly the ICC), refurbished at ₦39 billion, had already generated over ₦700 million in just three weeks a sharp contrast to the ₦50 million annual revenue previously generated.
