2027 Is a Done Deal for APC in Edo – Governor Okpebholo Declares

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has boldly declared that the 2027 general elections are already secured for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, asserting that the political opposition will be completely neutralized well before the next major poll cycle.

Speaking at the official campaign flag-off for the August 16 senatorial by-election in Edo Central, held in Uromi, Okpebholo described the event as a precursor to the APC’s dominance in future elections. The rally attracted key party stakeholders and supporters, including APC state chairman, Jarrett Tenebe.

“This is a test for 2027. I can tell you that 2027 is sure. Before then, there will be no opposition in Edo State anymore. All will join the APC because of the developmental achievements in the state,” the governor stated.

Okpebholo highlighted recent defections from opposition parties as a sign of the APC’s growing influence. Among those who crossed over were prominent figures like Alhaji Esiwele Musa, Abraham Osazuwa, Sunny Ejie, and Robert Okoneme — all formerly affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The defectors were drawn from various wards across Edo Central’s 51 political units.

In a direct message to remaining opposition candidates, the governor advised them to abandon their political ambitions and align with the APC.

“I understand that it is only the candidates in the other parties that have not decamped to our party. I advise them not to waste their money but to join us. If they give you money, take it and vote for the APC. The money is our money,” Okpebholo told supporters.

He further pledged a total sweep in the senatorial by-election across the five local government areas, claiming the APC was poised to dominate every ward.

Turning attention to the national political stage, Okpebholo reaffirmed Edo State’s commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

“We promised to give the President 2.5 million votes, and we are ready to deliver on our promises. We won’t talk too much because the election is a done deal,” he added.

Governor Okpebholo’s remarks underscore the APC’s strategic efforts to solidify its base in Edo State ahead of future elections, while emphasizing defections and electoral momentum as signs of the party’s political strength.
