42-Year-Old Faces Terrorism Charges After Stabbing 11 in Michigan Walmart Attack

A 42-year-old man, Bradford James Gille, is facing terrorism and multiple assault charges after allegedly stabbing 11 people during a random attack at a Walmart in Grand Traverse County on Saturday afternoon.

The victims, ranging in age from 29 to 84, included shoppers and a Walmart employee. While several remain hospitalized in serious or fair condition, authorities confirmed that all victims are expected to survive, according to the BBC.

Gille reportedly used a 3.5-inch folding knife in the assault, which law enforcement officials have described as unprovoked and indiscriminate.

The rampage was brought to an end by quick-thinking bystanders, including Derrick Perry, an ex-Marine who tackled the suspect and held him at gunpoint until deputies arrived.

“At the time of the deputy’s arrival, multiple citizens, including one who was armed with a pistol, were confronting the male suspect in the parking lot and preventing him from harming further people or fleeing,” said Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea during a Sunday press briefing.

Authorities say the motive for the attack remains unclear. The FBI is assisting local detectives in the ongoing investigation.

Gille has been charged with:

  • 11 counts of attempted murder
  • Aggravated assault
  • Use of a deadly weapon
  • Domestic terrorism

He is expected to be arraigned on Monday or Tuesday.

In a statement, Walmart spokesperson Joe Pennington condemned the incident:

“Violence like this is unacceptable. Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we’re thankful for the swift action of first responders.”

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer also offered condolences to the victims and the affected community, calling it a “brutal act of violence”.

Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior. More updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
