Gov. Sani: My cabinet and I take half salary to cut governance costs

Out-of-School Children Reduced from 680,000 to 300,000Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State announced on Friday that he, along with his cabinet members, is on a half salary policy aimed at reducing governance costs. This measure, he said, has redirected funds toward addressing infrastructure gaps, particularly in education and healthcare.

Following a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the governor shared updates on the state’s progress in key sectors. Governor Sani highlighted that since assuming office, neither he nor his appointees have received new vehicles, which has further supported savings on government expenses.

He explained, “We made a commitment to reduce the cost of governance in Kaduna State. To date, no government official, including myself, has received a new vehicle. This strategy allows us to focus on enhancing education and healthcare infrastructure.”

Governor Sani also cited security improvements in Kaduna, crediting robust collaboration among security agencies and local stakeholders. He noted a recent visit to Birnin Gwari, where he received assurances from the Emir about the notable absence of insurgency incidents over recent months.

Highlighting educational advancements, he reported a drop in the number of out-of-school children from 680,000 to 300,000 due to recent investments in education infrastructure. “In the last six months, we have built 62 secondary schools, 2,340 classrooms, and hired additional teachers. We’ve also upgraded 12 secondary healthcare centers,” he added.

The governor shared his enthusiasm for upcoming projects, including 700 kilometers of road construction, and the recent acquisition of 100 CNG buses, which he invited President Tinubu to commission, aligning with the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
