Kano Government Imposes Movement Restrictions Ahead of Local Government Elections
The Kano State Government has declared a movement restriction throughout the state in preparation for the local government elections scheduled for Saturday.
Baba Halilu Dantiye, the Commissioner for Information, announced the precautionary measure on Friday, stating that it is intended to ensure the safety of both lives and property during the electoral process.
The restrictions will be effective from midnight until 6 PM on election day, allowing only personnel involved in essential services, such as election officials, security forces, and accredited journalists, to move freely.
Dantiye urged the public to adhere to the directive and work in cooperation with security agencies. He encouraged residents to exercise their civic duties peacefully and to avoid any disruptions during the election.
Meanwhile, Prof. Lawal Malumfashi, the chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), reassured citizens that the commission is well-equipped to conduct a transparent election. He called on voters to participate actively and cast their ballots.
Malumfashi listed the political parties contesting in the council elections, which include the Action Alliance, Zenith Labour Party, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, among others, affirming the commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections across all 44 local government areas.
