The Director of Inter-Campus Crisis Management under the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comr. Ogbodo Ebubechukwu, has partnered with the Dean of Student Affairs, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), to ensure an adequate peace and learning environment.
The Director paid a courtesy visit to the Dean, Prof. Mrs. Ifeoma Okwor, on Tuesday to seek collaboration on tackling crises in the university.
He stated that his office aims to secure students in their various institutions, ensuring a violence-free environment in all tertiary institutions in Enugu State. This is achieved by working with security agencies, school management, and student executives to enhance a peaceful environment.
He further stated that his office has committees from various schools to ensure this goal is met. He presented his committee members from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Comr. Egbo Somtochukwu Caleb and his media aide, Chiekezie Emmanuel, to the Dean. He explained that the reason for choosing his media aide is to disseminate information, events, and activities of his office.
Prof. Ifeoma Okwor expressed her happiness and pledged to collaborate with them. She emphasized that crisis management is key to a peaceful environment in the university. “I am happy to hear that there is a team ensuring a peaceful environment in the universities in Enugu State,” she said.
She acknowledged that crisis is inevitable in any institution, citing the example of families experiencing conflicts. “As for crisis, you see even in families, husbands and wives, children fighting. Not to talk of when you have about 5, 000 students of divergent people from various families and backgrounds who try to coexist. Of course, you should expect to have things like that because they are inevitable. But what we need is to resolve and do our best in ensuring an adequate peaceful learning environment,” Prof. Ifeoma said.
She stated that she is ready to partner with the Director of Inter-Campus Crisis Management because it will make her work easier. “The main aim of my office is to achieve an academic and peaceful environment. Whatever we can do to ensure there is a peaceful environment in the university is our priority,” she said.
