Flying Eagles Face Tough Group in 2025 U-20 AFCON Draw
Nigeria’s U-20 national football team, the Flying Eagles, is intensifying preparations for the upcoming 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 18.
The team has been drawn into a challenging Group B, where they will face Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco—teams known for their strong footballing pedigree.
Under the guidance of head coach Aliyu Zubairu, the Flying Eagles have resumed training at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja. The squad is currently in camp, having invited 30 players to sharpen their skills ahead of the tournament.
The team has already secured a series of friendly matches against Egypt, scheduled for February 25 and 27 in Cairo, which will serve as crucial preparation for their AFCON campaign.
The Flying Eagles head into the tournament with a rich history, having won the U-20 AFCON title a record seven times. Their recent success at the WAFU-B U-20 Championship further solidifies their status as one of Africa’s top youth teams.
The competition not only serves as a platform to showcase young talent but also provides an opportunity for the top four teams to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.
As they gear up for their opening match against Egypt, Nigerian football fans are hopeful that the Flying Eagles will continue their legacy of excellence and aim for an eighth continental title.
The team’s performance in this tournament will be critical for building a competitive future for Nigerian football on the international stage.
