Her daughter, Lotlot de Leon, announced her passing on Instagram, stating, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, celebrated television and movie actress, and a true National Artist of the Philippines, Nora Aunor.”

The cause of her death has not been disclosed. Aunor was a celebrated figure in Philippine cinema, known for her exceptional talent and charisma, with a career spanning over seven decades.

She was named a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2022, the highest honor bestowed upon actors in the Philippines.
