Rivers Governor’s Aide Denies Defection Rumors, Affirms Fubara’s PDP Membership.

The Special Assistant on Electronic Media to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Jerry Omatsogunwa, has firmly denied rumors of the governor’s alleged planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Omatsogunwa stated that Fubara remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and expressed doubt that the governor was even aware of the defection rumors that surfaced on Sunday.

According to Omatsogunwa, Fubara is still a bona fide member of the PDP and currently serves as the Deputy Chairman of the PDP Governor’s Forum.

The aide emphasized that nothing has changed regarding Fubara’s party affiliation, and the governor has not discussed defection.

Omatsogunwa also commented on unconfirmed reports of a meeting between Fubara and President Bola Tinubu in London, neither confirming nor denying the meeting but stating that if it occurred, it would be a positive step towards finding a solution for Rivers State.

The aide reiterated that Rivers State is peaceful and doesn’t require a state of emergency, criticizing the current administration’s actions and accusing them of attempting to incite a crisis.

The state of emergency was declared by President Tinubu on March 18, citing a prolonged political crisis that threatens national assets in the oil-rich region, and has been met with widespread condemnation from various stakeholders who describe it as unconstitutional.
