P. Diddy Rejects Plea Deal in Sex Trafficking Case, Faces Trial
American music icon and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs turned down a plea bargain offered by the U.S. government on Thursday, which could have reduced his potential prison sentence.
When questioned by Judge Arun Subramanian about his decision regarding the prosecutors’ offer, Combs responded affirmatively, “Yes, I do, Your Honour.”Diddy is set to go to trial starting Monday, with jury selection scheduled to begin.
He is facing serious allegations, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and prostitution, where it is claimed he coerced women into what he termed “freak-offs,” prolonged sexual encounters.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey indicated that accepting a guilty plea would have greatly minimized his prison time. A full conviction on the charges he faces could result in a life sentence.
Throughout the court proceedings, Combs appeared in a beige jail uniform, displaying a calm demeanor as he shared smiles, hugs, and fist bumps with his legal team, including attorney Teny Geragos. Geragos expressed concern over public comments made by Los Angeles attorney Lisa Bloom, who is representing some of Combs’ civil accusers in a controversial documentary.
Judge Subramanian responded by reminding all involved parties of the importance of adhering to professional conduct standards and court procedures to protect Combs’ right to a fair trial.
