“Early detection of cancer would’ve saved Sound Sultan” – 2Baba.

Popular Nigerian musician, Innocent Ujah Idibia, commonly known as 2Baba, has implied that an early detection of illness could have potentially saved his dear late friend and fellow singer, Sound Sultan, who tragically succumbed to throat cancer in 2021.

2Baba revealed that during Sound Sultan’s illness, they initially perceived his symptoms as malaria.Furthermore, 2Baba placed responsibility on the inadequate healthcare system in the country for the delayed diagnosis. He expressed his concerns regarding the shortcomings within the healthcare infrastructure, implying that Sound Sultan’s illness might have been detected earlier under better circumstances.

2Baba recently made an appearance on the popular Afrobeats podcast hosted by Adesope Olajide, also known as Shopsydoo, a British-Nigerian media personality.

The host asked: “How was the relationship with Sound Sultan and how has that loss been for you?”

2Baba replied:

“He [Sound Sultan] was one of the ‘goodest’, if I can use that word. He was one of the ‘goodest’ people you can ever come across, like angel.“For a long time, I did not want to accept that fact, it was like a joke”.

The diagnosis was late. We thought it was malaria, he did tests in Nigeria. But I don’t want to get into all that.”According to reports, Sound Sultan passed away in the United States on July 11, 2021, at the age of 44. Sadly, his demise came shortly after being diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a form of cancer that affects the immune system.
