‘My father disowned me, my siblings’ – Seyi Awolowo

Former Big Brother Naija contestant, Seyi Awolowo, recently opened up about his challenging childhood experiences in an interview with Chude Jideonwo.

He revealed that his father, a polygamist, had disowned him on multiple occasions, causing emotional distress and uncertainty.

Seyi, who is the grandson of the late prominent Nigerian statesman, Obafemi Awolowo, shared that his father maintained a detailed record of each child’s actions, creating a sense of scrutiny and pressure.

He spoke candidly about the difficulties of growing up in a polygamous family, where he faced rejection and judgment from his father.

He said,

“My father disowned me a couple of times. Not just me, a couple of us because my father married three wives.

“My father wrote letters to cut off his children, reducing our identities to mere names on a list. We all have files. ‘As of right now, your name is just Seyi, full stop”.
