“Abandoned by Their Children? Man Reflects on the Sad Reality of Elderly Homes”
A Nigerian man has shared a deeply emotional reflection after coming across photos of an elderly home, highlighting the growing trend of children abandoning their aging parents.
Irogbum Godspower Worlu took to Facebook to express his sadness, noting that many parents who dedicate their lives to raising children often end up in the care of strangers.
He wrote:
“Sad 😭😭😭. Life truly is a mystery. Today, I saw pictures of a Home for the Elderly, and it made me reflect deeply.
A parent carries a pregnancy for nine months, raises the child, endures sleepless nights, sacrifices, and prays tirelessly to shape a life.
Yet, when that child grows and becomes successful, they might place their parent in a home, leaving strangers to care for them.
🤔 Is this truly the reward of parenthood? Where did our sense of family and responsibility go? The thought brought tears to my eyes. Times have changed, but still, I say: It is well.”
Worlu concluded with a poignant reminder about the importance of honoring parents:
“Let us not forget that old age is a stage we all hope to reach. Treating our parents with love and dignity is not just a moral duty—it is a seed we sow for our own future.”
The post has resonated widely, sparking conversations about family values, respect, and the treatment of the elderly.
