Abia Declared Free from Cholera, Monkey Pox, and Other Infectious Diseases
The Abia State Government has assured residents that the state remains free of major infectious disease outbreaks, including Cholera, Monkey Pox, Lassa Fever, Yellow Fever, and Diphtheria.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Health, Okey Kanu, during a media briefing following the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu stated that no cases of these diseases had been reported in the state within the current monitoring period. He attributed the success to the increasing adoption of hygienic practices by residents across the state.
The commissioner also provided updates on the ongoing medical recruitment drive, noting that over 1,000 applications have been received for the 771 medical roles recently approved by Governor Otti. These roles span across various healthcare professions including doctors, pharmacists, and nurses.
In a related development, the state government has procured a wheelchair-accessible bus to support the mobility of physically-challenged athletes, underscoring its commitment to inclusive development.
Meanwhile, Commissioner for Information announced that Abia-born members of the Super Falcons, who recently returned to their European clubs after national duty, will be formally hosted by Governor Otti later in the year.
