Abia State Government Seals Tinubu’s Campaign Office in Umuahia Over Tax Violations
The Abia State Government has shut down a campaign office in Umuahia associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign group, Renewed Hope Partners (RHP).
The office, which functions as the South East regional hub for Tinubu’s campaign and is reportedly managed by Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, was sealed without prior notice.
Workers at the office expressed shock upon discovering the building on Ojike Street sealed. Notices pasted at the entrance by the Ministry of Lands and Housing cited violations of Abia State tax laws as the reason for the closure.
The notice read:
“This property is in contravention of Sections 41 and 100 of the Abia State Tax Law (Codification and Consolidation), Law No. 7 of 2020. And it’s hereby sealed.
Any person, including the owner/occupier, neighbour(s), or passer(s) by, who attempts to unseal this building is in contravention of the Abia State Tax Law No. 7 of 2020. Be warned. Keep off.”
The sudden closure has sparked discussions about compliance and accountability for campaign offices operating in the state.
