Abure-Led Labour Party Faction Moves to Expel Peter Obi Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities
The Labour Party faction led by Julius Abure has revealed plans to formally expel former presidential candidate Peter Obi from the party over alleged anti-party activities.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, accused Obi of aligning with a rival political movement, describing his actions as a violation of the party’s constitution.
Arabambi stated that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) would soon convene to finalize and ratify the recommendation for Obi’s expulsion at its national convention.
“Let me make it very clear: we are convening a NEC meeting where he (Obi) will be expelled,” Arabambi declared. “It is unconstitutional for anyone to belong to two political parties at the same time. He has been deceived into joining their so-called coalition, and there he shall remain.”
He further alleged that Obi’s affiliations with what he described as a “yahoo yahoo coalition” are not in line with the Labour Party’s values and objectives.
“Obi is no longer a member of our party. It is not within his right to claim he is still with us while engaging with another political group. We won’t tolerate such duplicity,” he added.
This development adds a new twist to the internal rift within the Labour Party and raises questions about the party’s direction ahead of the next election cycle.
