Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Aims for Record Finish Under 2:10 in 10th Edition
Organizers of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon are aiming for a record-breaking finish time of under two hours and ten minutes at the race’s tenth edition, scheduled for February 24, 2025.
In addition to pursuing a faster finish, they are also focused on ensuring a clean race for all participants.
The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon has grown to become one of the world’s most prestigious races, with over 100,000 runners expected to participate in both the 42-kilometer full marathon and the 10-kilometer fun run.
The marathon route starts at the National Stadium in Surulere and finishes at Eko Atlantic. The 42km race is scheduled to flag off at 6:00 AM, while the 10km race will begin at 9:30 AM.
Elite athletes competing in the 42km marathon stand to win $50,000 for first place, $20,000 for second place, and $15,000 for third place. Nigerian athletes also have a chance to win, with the top prize being ₦2,000,000.
The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon was established in 2016 through a partnership between Access Bank and the Lagos State Government.
The aim was to promote healthy living and sports development. In 2016, it was ranked as the 2nd best marathon in Africa and 71st globally.
