ACF Urges Political Leaders to Prioritize Governance Over Early 2027 Campaigns.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has cautioned political figures against launching premature campaigns for the 2027 general elections, urging them to focus on effective governance instead.

The forum described such early campaigning as callous, especially in light of the escalating insecurity, economic difficulties, and rising public unrest.

During the 715th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the forum’s Kaduna headquarters, ACF Chairman Chief Mamman Mike Osuman expressed concern over the recent uptick in violent incidents across the North and other regions.

He specifically highlighted the troubling increase in terror attacks and the tragic loss of life and property in areas such as Bokkos in Plateau State, the violent killings of Northerners in Uromi, Edo State, and the resurgence of Boko Haram activity in Borno State.

Osuman pointed out that, despite government assurances of normalcy in the North-East, the return of insurgent activities has severely undermined public confidence.

He lamented the disruption caused to community life due to these security challenges, leading to abandoned farms, closed schools, and halted small businesses, all of which are devastating livelihoods.

The ACF also expressed sympathy for the victims of recent catastrophic flooding in Maiduguri and its surroundings, calling for urgent action by federal and state authorities to enhance emergency responses and rebuild essential infrastructure.

On the political landscape, Osuman criticized the rising intensity of electoral campaigning and media discussions related to the 2027 elections, labeling them as distractions from crucial governance tasks.

He emphasized that while ambition to serve is admirable, the primary concern should be the safety, well-being, and prosperity of Nigerians.
