Acquaintance Claims Kaffy’s Attitude, Not Single Motherhood, Keeps Men Away

An alleged acquaintance of Nigerian dance icon Kafayat Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, has suggested that men’s hesitation to marry her may not be solely because she is a single mother of two.

The claim surfaced shortly after Kaffy’s appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, where she candidly discussed her upbringing, divorce, and struggles with societal stigma as a single mother. She explained that many men shy away from her due to her parental status.

However, an X user identified as @CollinsUma contradicted Kaffy’s perspective, alleging that his personal interaction with her left a negative impression.

He recalled working with the dancer on a project, during which she allegedly demanded to be addressed strictly as “Dr Kaffy”, a request he described as condescending.

“No, sweetheart, that’s not the reason. We were working on a project together one time and she warned me seriously that I must always call her Dr Kaffy. Spoke to me, a 40+ man, like I was her child,” he wrote.

The post has since generated mixed reactions on social media. While some users criticised Collins for being disrespectful, others defended Kaffy, pointing out that people with doctoral titles often insist on being addressed accordingly.

One user wrote, “People with PhD no dey carry that Dr thing play. My lecturer in school nearly failed one student because of that.” Another added, “A man who doesn’t like wahala would simply walk away from such drama. But men who love wahala will dive in—and still cry later.”

As of press time, Kaffy has not issued any response to the fresh claims.
