Activist General Asabuja Calls Out Nigerian Pastors, Accuses Them of Double Standards in Politics

A viral video shared by The Benin Blogger has sparked nationwide debate over the role of prominent Nigerian pastors in politics and governance, particularly during the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The 1 minute 48 seconds clip features cleric and activist General Asabuja, who openly criticised Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and Pastor Tunde Bakare, accusing them of double standards when speaking about governments.

Asabuja recalled how Pastor Adeboye frequently condemned the leadership of former President Goodluck Jonathan, claiming that Jonathan was never given peace of mind by church leaders at the time.

“We saw what Pastor Adeboye did during Jonathan’s administration. They did not let him rest. They fought Goodluck Jonathan. Church people, General Overseer. God will judge you people,” he said in the video.

The activist questioned why the same pastors have remained silent under President Tinubu’s administration, despite the worsening insecurity and rising poverty in the country.

“Adeboye no go see say Tinubu no dey do well. Adeboye no go see say the government no dey do well. Goodluck Jonathan time, una see wetin Adeboye do,” Asabuja stressed.

He went on to allege that their silence may be tied to ethnic loyalty, suggesting that the refusal to criticise Tinubu is because he hails from their region.

“Now, una no go talk. Because na una brother. Na una friend. Na una fellow Yoruba. Na una Oga dey for seat,” he added.

The video has since gone viral, drawing mixed reactions from Nigerians online. While some agreed with Asabuja’s claims of hypocrisy, others defended the pastors, insisting their silence should not be mistaken for complicity.

For now, the controversy continues to fuel debates about the influence of religious leaders in Nigerian politics and their responsibility to hold every government accountable.
