ADC Coalition Chairman David Mark Denies Endorsing Peter Obi or Atiku for 2027 Presidency

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has firmly refuted reports claiming it has endorsed any presidential candidate ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The party clarified that it is not aligned with Peter Obi of the Labour Party, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, or any other political figure at this time.

Interim National Chairman of the ADC and former Senate President, Senator David Mark, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

“The ADC has not settled on any candidate for the 2027 elections. We are not in alliance with any political figure,” he said. “Our primary focus is on building a strong platform that will appeal to the majority of Nigerians.”

Mark emphasized the party’s commitment to providing a credible alternative for Nigerians, one capable of safeguarding national unity and steering the country toward stability.

“We don’t want this great ship called Nigeria to sink. If we fail to rise up now, we may all go down with it,” he warned.

The ADC also addressed allegations made by its 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, who claimed that the interim leadership was secretly backing Atiku Abubakar. Senator Mark dismissed the claim, stating that the party belongs to all Nigerians.

“I do not own this party more than any other member. All Nigerians must come together and take ownership of the ADC,” he stated.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu’s aide, Bayo Onanuga, claimed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that some political actors were plotting to unseat the President before 2027.

He described the Tinubu-led administration as “the most focused and transformative in Nigeria’s history,” and warned that enemies of progress were attempting to sabotage national development.

Onanuga also cited a remark by former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who once said:

“If anybody tells you reform will be easy, don’t vote for him.”

The ADC has reiterated its neutrality as it prepares to position itself as a viable alternative in the next general election.
