ADC Disclaims Circulating List of State Chairmen, Warns Public Against Online Registration Fraud
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disowned a list of purported state chairmen circulating on social media, describing it as false and unauthorized. The party also issued a stern warning to Nigerians regarding fraudulent online platforms claiming to conduct membership registration on its behalf.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC and spokesperson for the coalition of opposition political parties, the party categorically denied any knowledge of the appointments listed in the viral post. The statement labeled the circulated names as “entirely fictitious.”
A post shared via a verified X (formerly Twitter) account had claimed that the ADC National Secretariat released the names of new state chairpersons across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The post included a long list of names and purported party officials, but lacked any official endorsement or signature from party leadership.
Reacting to the post, Abdullahi clarified:
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wishes to make it known to the public that the party is not aware of any such appointments being circulated across social media platforms.”
He cautioned Nigerians against falling for misinformation and directed the public to rely solely on the party’s verified communication channels for authentic information.
“The ADC admonishes Nigerians to verify all information through the official X handle of the party’s National Publicity Secretary, @BolajiADC. Any announcement not shared through these official platforms should be regarded as false,” he added.
The party also raised alarm over the increasing number of fraudulent websites soliciting payments for fake membership registration. According to the statement, these platforms are operated by scammers seeking to defraud unsuspecting citizens.
“The party condemns in strong terms the creation of fake online platforms being used to exploit Nigerians financially under the guise of ADC registration,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC urged Nigerians to exercise caution and consult the party’s official sources for guidance regarding membership and other activities. The warning comes amid heightened political activity and increased misinformation in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
The African Democratic Congress, in collaboration with other opposition parties, recently intensified its political mobilization under a new coalition aimed at challenging the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
