Afenifere Condemns Emergency Rule in Rivers, Accuses Tinubu and NASS of Desecrating 1999 Constitution.

The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for backing the state of emergency declaration in Rivers State.

Afenifere claims that this move desecrates the 1999 Constitution and demonstrates a lack of courage to defend the democratic rights of Nigerians.In a communique issued after its National Caucus meeting, Afenifere stated that the National Assembly’s support for the emergency rule was “an ill wind that blows the nation no good and spits on the faces of Nigerians.”

The group also criticized the use of voice votes to approve the emergency rule, saying it obscured compliance with constitutional requirements.

Afenifere demanded that the present leadership of the National Assembly step aside, citing a crisis of trust and a lack of integrity.

The group also drew parallels between President Tinubu’s actions and Adolf Hitler’s rise to power in Nazi Germany, warning that Nigeria’s democracy is at risk of being hijacked by the executive arm of government .
