“Aging Is a Privilege, Not a Curse” — Ex-BBNaija Star Uriel Oputa Slams Age-Shaming Culture
Former Big Brother Naija housemate and media personality, Uriel Oputa, has taken a bold stand against the culture of age-shaming, particularly targeting the attitudes of some Nigerian men. In a passionate Instagram post on Sunday, Uriel condemned the act of mocking women for growing older, calling it a disrespectful and ignorant mindset that goes against the natural order of life.
She expressed disappointment at how some people, rather than absorbing the positive messages shared online, choose instead to focus on a woman’s age as a means of insult. According to Uriel, aging should never be viewed as something shameful — instead, it should be celebrated as a blessing that many are not fortunate enough to experience.
“This is directly aimed at Nigerian men,” she said. “It is an insult to God when you use a woman’s age to mock her. I shared a video with a valuable message, and instead of understanding the concept and applying it to your life, all you saw was ‘you’re getting old.’ That’s a reflection of your lack of wisdom.”
She emphasized that growing old is far better than dying young, reminding critics that many wealthy individuals would trade their riches for one more breath of life. “There is no shame in aging. I’d rather grow old than be six feet under with regrets,” Uriel added.
Concluding her message, she urged people to reflect on their words and stop mocking what they do not understand. “One day, life will teach you the hard way,” she warned.
Uriel’s powerful statement has sparked widespread support online, as many women and fans commended her for using her platform to speak out against the ageist stereotypes that continue to persist in society.
