Ahmed Musa Condemns Benue Massacre, Urges Nigerian Leaders to Take Immediate Action

Veteran Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa has voiced deep sorrow and frustration over the recent massacre in Benue State, where suspected herders killed dozens of civilians in Guma Local Government Area over a two-day rampage. Musa, who recently rejoined Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League, condemned the violence and called on Nigerian leaders to move beyond empty words and take meaningful, consistent action to end the bloodshed.

On his social media, Musa wrote, “Another wave of heartbreaking killings in Benue. How many more lives must be lost before real action is taken? We can’t keep condemning violence and then moving on. Don’t wait until it happens close to home or to someone you know — speak out now.” He urged leaders to abandon seasonal politics and show genuine commitment to governance, emphasizing, “We demand more. We deserve better. Benue deserves peace. Nigeria deserves better.”

Musa’s heartfelt message adds to the growing chorus of national and international condemnation following the tragedy, which reportedly claimed over 200 lives, with some victims reportedly burned alive. President Bola Tinubu condemned the attacks, announcing plans to visit Benue and directing security agencies to act decisively to bring perpetrators to justice. He also urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to initiate dialogue and reconciliation efforts to restore peace.

Global figures, including Pope Leo XVI, have also expressed sorrow, with the Pope describing the massacre as “terrible” during his Sunday Angelus prayers. The incident has sparked outrage across Nigeria, with calls for urgent government intervention to prevent further violence.
