Aiyedatiwa Secures Victory in Ondo Governorship Election, Winning All 18 LGAs.
In the Ondo governorship election held on November 16, 2024, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner, securing a landslide victory across all 18 local government areas (LGAs) of the state. The election was mostly peaceful, although some instances of vote-buying were reported by observers.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had authorized 18 political parties to participate, and the process was conducted across 3,933 polling units with a total of 2,053,061 registered voters.
INEC utilized the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) to enhance transparency and mitigate malpractice.
After an extensive campaign period, residents cast their votes to determine their governor for the next four years.
Aiyedatiwa’s main challenger was Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who previously served as Akeredolu’s deputy before the incumbent took office following the late governor’s death.
The APC celebrated Aiyedatiwa’s victory, praising INEC and security agencies for their roles in the election’s successful execution. As reporting progressed, results flowed in, highlighting a strong preference for Aiyedatiwa among the electorate.
