Akpabio Asks IG to Investigate and Prosecute Natasha Over Assassination Allegation.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has submitted a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, demanding an investigation and prosecution of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central), who accused him of plotting her assassination.

The petition, dated April 3, 2025, was also sent to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN). In the document, Akpabio described the accusation as a “heinous lie” aimed at damaging his reputation, inciting unrest, and jeopardizing his safety.

He asserted that Natasha’s claims are unfounded, politically driven, and defamatory. Akpabio noted that her remarks, which have circulated widely on various media platforms, lack evidence and are crafted to create political instability and sway public sentiment.

“I firmly state that this allegation is completely false, without merit, and politically motivated. It is a deliberate act of character assassination and blackmail,” he declared.

Highlighting the serious nature of the charges and their public impact, he urged law enforcement to act swiftly. Akpabio called for Natasha’s prosecution under laws pertaining to criminal defamation, incitement, false accusation, and actions likely to disrupt peace.

He emphasized that public figures must be responsible for statements that could threaten peace and democratic integrity.

On April 1, during her return to Kogi State, Natasha had alleged that Akpabio had directed former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello and Governor Usman Ododo to carry out her assassination, suggesting the act was meant to implicate her constituents.
