ALGON Sokoto Disowns Claim Endorsing Wamakko as Tinubu’s Running Mate
The Sokoto State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has strongly denied reports suggesting it endorsed Senator Aliyu Wamakko as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 general elections.
In an official statement on Monday, ALGON’s State Chairman, Alhaji Abba Shehu-Tambuwal, clarified that comments made by ALGON Secretary and Kebbe LGA Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Yarima, were personal and not representative of the association’s position.
“Yarima acted on his own,” Shehu-Tambuwal stated. “His remarks were neither authorized nor discussed with other ALGON members.”
He emphasized that Wamakko has not expressed any interest in the vice presidency and described the speculation as “baseless, misleading, and irresponsible.” ALGON called for responsible communication and urged the public to disregard the unauthorized claim.
Wamakko’s spokesperson, Abdallah El-Kurebe, had also previously distanced the senator from any 2027 ambition, dismissing the rumour as false.
