Amaechi Blasts Tinubu’s Leadership, Says Buhari Outperformed Him ‘By All Standards’
Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has delivered a scathing critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, claiming it has underperformed when compared to that of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Not everything was achieved. Buhari will tell you that he did not achieve all he planned. But then, he was better than the current government by all standards,” Amaechi said.
Amaechi cited security, institutional independence, and transportation development as areas where Buhari excelled compared to the current regime. He also expressed dismay at what he described as embarrassing moments in Tinubu’s presidency.
“I feel ashamed for a President commissioning 16 kilometers of road. That’s what a local government chairman should be doing,” he added.
Amaechi further criticised the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, especially the removal of fuel subsidies and naira floatation, arguing that Nigerians are not feeling any tangible benefit.
“You’re making savings from subsidy removal and naira floatation so where is the money?” he asked. “Any economic policy that does not put money in people’s pockets is not a real economic policy.”
According to Amaechi, the current economic climate has eliminated the middle class, reducing the country to a sharp divide between the elite and the extremely poor.
“At this rate, a time will come when the poor will no longer be visible because they’ll all be dead,” he warned.
Responding to claims that his criticism stemmed from being denied a political appointment, Amaechi clarified that he is not seeking any position under the Tinubu-led government.
“I’m not in opposition because Tinubu didn’t appoint me. I don’t drive a Rolls-Royce, I’ve never stolen from politics. If anyone says I did, let them come forward,” he asserted.
Amaechi, who ran for president under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022, hinted at a possible return to the political frontlines. He said he remains qualified to lead and pledged to release his medical records, age, and academic certificates within three weeks to prove his fitness.
He also praised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he’s working with as part of a coalition preparing for the 2027 elections, aimed at restoring power to the people and reviving Nigeria’s democratic structure.
