Amaechi Declares I Am Not Stepping Down in ADC 2027 Presidential Race

Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, has dramatically declared he will not step down for anyone in his quest to clinch the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket for the 2027 elections.

Speaking after a meeting with a coalition of traders in Kano on Wednesday, Amaechi emphasized his determination to contest the ADC presidential primary and expressed confidence in winning the party’s nomination to face President Bola Tinubu in the general election.

“I will contest the ADC presidential primary, and by God’s grace, I hope to win so that I can face Tinubu in 2027,” Amaechi stated firmly.

He insisted that the primary election must be open, warning against political pressures to step aside for prominent aspirants like Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar. “I am not stepping down for anyone. Let the people decide who they want to lead,” he declared.

Amaechi, who served as Minister of Transportation from 2015 to 2022, also criticized the current administration, noting widespread dissatisfaction with President Tinubu’s policies and highlighting economic hardships facing Nigerians.

Describing himself as one of the most qualified contenders, Amaechi said his candidacy offers unity as he comes from the South and does not have conflicts with any region. Addressing rumors about his declining political influence in Rivers State, he cited a recent large turnout at an ADC event in the state as proof of his enduring support.

His declaration signals a competitive atmosphere within the ADC as the party prepares its primary ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
