Anambra 2025: Igbo Political Network Deploys 5,000 Observers to Ensure Credible Election

A socio-political organisation, the Igbo Political Network (IPN), has mobilised and deployed over 5,000 independent observers to monitor the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship election.

The group described the forthcoming poll as a defining moment for the South-East region, urging political stakeholders and electoral authorities to ensure a transparent and credible process.

President of the group, Chief Alex Okemiri, disclosed this in Enugu on Monday, saying the Igbos must unite to resist any form of intimidation or marginalisation in their political affairs.

Okemiri explained that the group’s decision to send observers was to safeguard the integrity of the election and ensure that the outcome truly reflects the will of the people.

“All eyes are on Anambra State come November 8, 2025. This election remains epochal in the entire Igbo land. Political leaders from Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo are all interested in this election because it is seen as a major test of our political history as a people,” he said.

He noted that since 2015, the Igbo Political Network had worked to protect the political and economic interests of the Igbo people by promoting peace, fair play, and the eradication of political thuggery across the region.

“We have always ensured that votes count and that politicians conduct themselves according to democratic principles, without interference from external manipulators. To achieve this, all hands must be on deck — politicians, security agencies, and electoral officers must ensure a level playing field,” Okemiri stated.

He said the mobilisation of 5,000 observers was funded by the group’s members despite the harsh economic climate, stressing that it was a necessary sacrifice for the credibility of the election.

Okemiri appealed to the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, to be impartial and transparent, describing the Anambra election as an integrity test for the new INEC leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We call on the new INEC Chairman to live above board and ensure that the Anambra election is free and fair. This is his first major national assignment, and Nigerians are watching. Ndigbo are not happy with the current political situation and any act capable of triggering violence should be avoided,” he warned.

He further urged security agencies to act professionally during the polls, while assuring that the IPN was prepared to tackle incidents of vote-buying and voter intimidation across the state.
