Anambra Governorship Election: INEC Delegation Arrives for Mock Accreditation, Assesses Readiness
A high-powered four-member delegation from the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) arrived in Anambra State on Thursday to evaluate the commission’s preparedness for the November 8, 2025, governorship election.
The delegation, led by INEC National Commissioner for Election Planning and Monitoring, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, includes the National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education, Sam Olumekun; Supervising Officer for Anambra, Dr. Kenneth Ukeagu; and Chairman of the Electoral Operations and Logistics Committee, Dr. Baba Bila.
The team was received at the INEC State Headquarters in Awka by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu, and other senior officials. Addressing journalists, Olumekun said the commission had developed a comprehensive operational plan covering logistics, technology, staff training, stakeholder engagement, and security coordination.
He noted that all non-sensitive election materials had already been delivered to the state, while sensitive materials would be distributed under tight security closer to the election date. “This week’s visit includes meetings with stakeholders, mock accreditation, and a detailed review of preparations — all aimed at demonstrating INEC’s readiness to conduct a free, fair, and credible election,” Olumekun said.
The team also visited Dunukofia and Oyi Local Government Areas to inspect the batching of non-sensitive materials and monitor the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in areas such as Ukpo and Nteje. After the inspection, the delegation expressed satisfaction with INEC’s level of preparedness and commended both staff and residents for their cooperation.
In the coming days, the officials will meet with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, engage transport unions, and observe mock accreditation exercises before concluding their visit. INEC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful and credible election process in Anambra State.
Dr. Agwu assured that all election materials would arrive promptly, including those bound for riverine areas. “The commission has made provisions for boats and logistics to ensure timely delivery,” she said, adding that materials would leave the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office on Thursday, November 6, to prevent late arrival at polling units.
She further explained that voter sensitization had been intensified across the state, noting that voting would commence at 8:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m., with all voters already on the queue allowed to cast their ballots.
