Anambra Student Tops 2025 UTME With Record-Breaking Score
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced Okeke Chinedu Christian from Anambra State as the highest scorer in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), achieving an extraordinary 375 out of 400.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ish-aq Oloyede, made the announcement during the 2025 Policy Meeting held on Tuesday, July 8, in Abuja.
Chinedu, who has chosen Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos as his first-choice course, outperformed over a million other candidates.
The second-highest scorer, Ayuba Simon-Peter John from Gombe State, scored 374 and applied to study the same course at Afe Babalola University.
Meanwhile, Jimoh Abdulmalik Olayinka from Kwara State secured third place with a 373 and is also targeting Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos.
During the same policy meeting, JAMB also announced new national minimum cut-off marks:
150 for universities
100 for polytechnics and colleges of education
140 for colleges of nursing sciences
While these are baseline requirements, institutions are free to set higher cut-off marks depending on course competitiveness and available slots.
JAMB emphasized that candidates should not rely solely on their UTME scores. Admission also depends on performance in post-UTME screening conducted by individual institutions.
Students are advised to regularly visit the websites of their preferred schools for departmental cut-offs, screening updates, and further admission guidelines.
