Anambra Vigilantes Sacked After Brutal Assault on NYSC Member: Governor Orders Prosecution
Jennifer Elohor, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, has recounted her terrifying ordeal after being assaulted and forcibly taken by members of the Anambra State Vigilante Group.
Elohor revealed in an interview with media personality Aprokoking that the vigilantes ignored all attempts to verify the corps members’ identity.
“They pushed us downstairs, tore our clothes, slapped us, and even struck one of my colleagues with an iron rod for pleading on my behalf,” she said.
The intruders reportedly threatened to destroy their phones to prevent them from contacting anyone for help. Social media videos of the attack went viral, sparking outrage and calls for justice across Nigeria.
In response to public pressure, the Anambra State Government confirmed that the officers responsible have been identified, dismissed from service, and are facing prosecution.
The government assured residents that strict measures would be taken to prevent such abuse in the future and emphasized the protection of NYSC members and other residents from unlawful harassment.
