Anthony Joshua Hints at Retirement: “2025 Might Be My Last Year in Boxing”
British heavyweight boxing icon Anthony Joshua has hinted at a possible retirement, revealing that 2025 may be the final chapter of his storied career.
The 35-year-old made the revelation during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, where he emotionally reflected on his 12-year journey in the sport.
“Twelve years ago, I signed with you, and twelve years later, I will throw my last punch with you,” Joshua said in a heartfelt tribute to Matchroom Boxing, the promotional company that has managed his professional journey.
Joshua turned pro in 2013 after a stellar amateur career, including a gold medal win at the 2012 London Olympics. Over the years, he rose to become a two-time unified world heavyweight champion, capturing the imagination of fans worldwide with his knockout power and charismatic presence.
His most recent fight was in September 2024, when he suffered a fifth-round knockout defeat to fellow British boxer Daniel Dubois. Despite the setback, Joshua is expected to return to the ring before the end of 2025, which may serve as his final bout.
If he follows through with retirement, it would mark the end of a remarkable era in British boxing, closing the chapter on one of the most successful careers in modern heavyweight history.
