APC Calls for EFCC Probe into Alleged Drug Distribution in Kano LGAs.
The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch a thorough investigation into a recent scandal involving medical supply contracts to 44 local governments in the state.
Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, the chairman of the APC in Kano, issued a statement requesting the freezing of the local government councils’ accounts to prevent further misappropriation of funds under the guise of joint projects.
Abbas criticized Governor Abba Yusuf for claiming ignorance of the scandal, suggesting that it demonstrated either a lack of control or leadership capacity.
The APC chairman also criticized the state Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission’s directive to probe the matter, arguing that its chairman, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, was biased and compromised.
Abbas highlighted previous instances of financial recklessness by officials of the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) government, including the controversial awarding of contracts worth N27 billion for the construction of interchange bridges.
These contracts were to be funded through a 30/70 ratio split between the state government and the 44 local governments.
