APC Challenges Osun Governor Adeleke to Reveal State’s Financial Status

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to openly disclose the state’s financial records.

The party voiced concerns regarding the alleged misappropriation of resources meant for the citizens, claiming these resources have been diverted for personal gain.

The opposition party criticized Adeleke’s recent grant of clemency to a police officer, Amien George, who is reportedly still undergoing trial, along with 52 other convicted individuals.

They labeled this act as self-serving, suggesting it could pave the way for increased crime in the state ahead of the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial elections.

During a year-end press conference in Osogbo, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, accused the current administration of covertly securing a substantial foreign loan amounting to $51 million, equivalent to N81.6 billion, based on an exchange rate of N1,600 to 1 USD.

Olabisi warned that the administration is heading towards a significant financial crisis, urging the citizens to hold Adeleke accountable for alleged fiscal irresponsibility.

According to the APC, claims that the Adeleke administration has not taken any loans are false.

They pointed out that parts of the 2024 budget are financed through the NG-CARES facility. Olabisi stated that the state had secretly acquired loans approximating N10 billion in 2023, as evidenced by the state’s audited financial statement.

Furthermore, he cited information from the Federal Ministry of Finance indicating that Osun State accessed a sum of $20 million from the NG-CARES program, translating to about N32 billion.

He expressed concern regarding the management of these funds and suggested that the citizens, especially the educated class, must demand transparency regarding the state’s financial health to avoid being burdened by long-term debt.
