APC in Osun State criticizes Adeleke for dismissing health workers.
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has expressed serious concern over the dire state of the health sector under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, stating that it is the worst situation the 33-year-old state has ever faced.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, accused the democratic government of paying mere lip service to the health sector and failing to provide the necessary manpower.
The recruitment of health workers, including doctors, pharmacists, and community health workers, was abruptly terminated because the appointments were made after Governor Oyetola lost the July 2022 gubernatorial election.
Lawal further criticized the government’s justification for the delay, stating that it was unnecessary to wait for the outcome of the minimum wage negotiations before recruiting health officers.
“In the first instance, why did Governor Adeleke sack the health workers recruited by the former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, on assumption of office when he knew he wasn’t having an immediate solution to the health problems in the state? When he knew well that the state had a shortfall of doctors and other health workers
.“Governor Adeleke should wake up and stop insulting the collective sensibilities of the people of the state. The health sector needs his urgent attention”.
