APC Shuts National Secretariat for Three Days in Honour of Late President Buhari
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the temporary closure of its National Secretariat in Abuja as a mark of respect for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In an official statement released on Monday, July 14, 2025, by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC confirmed that the Secretariat will remain shut for three days from Monday, July 14, to Thursday, July 17.
“In honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has closed its National Secretariat in Abuja,” the statement read. “The closure, directed by the Acting National Chairman, Hon. Bukar Dalori, reflects the party’s deep sorrow and reverence for the late leader.”
The APC called on its members and all Nigerians to join in mourning the former president through prayers and solemn reflection during the three-day observance.
This tribute follows the official confirmation of Buhari’s passing on Sunday, July 13, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information, Bayo Onanuga, and Buhari’s former spokesperson, Garba Shehu. The former president reportedly died in London around 4:30 p.m. after a long illness.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023 and as a military ruler from 1984 to 1985, was a prominent figure in the country’s political landscape for decades.
In response to his death, President Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to travel to the United Kingdom to coordinate the return of Buhari’s remains. He also ordered that national flags be flown at half-mast across the country for seven days in a nationwide show of respect.
