Hon Aliyu Adamu Kwankwaso, the Arewa Youth Chairman in Enugu State, has lauded the appointment of His Royal Highness Sarki Abubakar Yusuf Sambo II, the Sarkin Hausawan of Enugu, as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Special Duties to Governor Peter Mbah. The announcement, described as a “masterstroke for unity and progress,” underscores the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and youth empowerment across ethnic divides.
In a statement released on behalf of the Arewa Youth Forum, Kwankwaso praised the governor’s decision to integrate traditional leadership into modern governance, calling it a “bold step toward fostering peace and development.” He emphasized that HRH Sarki Sambo II’s dual role as Sarkin Hausawan and SSA bridges the gap between Enugu’s indigenous population and its vibrant Northern community, which has thrived in the state for generations.
“This appointment is not just a win for the Northern community but for all Enugu residents,” Kwankwaso stated. “Sarki Sambo’s wisdom, integrity, Peaceful disposition and dedication to youth development make him the ideal liaison between the government and grassroots stakeholders. We are confident he will amplify the voices of Enugu resident and ensure our concerns are addressed in policymaking.”
Kwankwaso highlighted HRH Sarki Sambo II’s track record in championing youth-oriented programs, including vocational training, conflict resolution, peaceful Coexististance and educational scholarships for underprivileged Northern youth in Enugu. He expressed optimism that the royal leader’s new position would accelerate initiatives such as the Enugu Youth Skills Acquisition Scheme and the proposed Multi-Ethnic Youth Peace Council, both critical to curbing unemployment and inter ethnic tensions.
HRH Sarki Abubakar Yusuf Sambo II, a revered figure among Northern communities in the Southeast and Vice Chairman inter tribal traditional leaders association of Nigeria has served as Sarkin Hausawan Enugu since 2016, His leadership has been pivotal in mediating disputes, promoting Peaceful Coexististance, commerce, and advocating for the rights of non-indigenous groups. His elevation to SSA on Special Duties signals Governor Mbah’s recognition of traditional institutions as vital partners in achieving the state’s development goals.
Similarly, Gov Peter Mbah also constituted Enugu State Muslim Pilgrimage Board which has also sparked widespread celebration among Arewa youth and leaders.
