A fresh spate of violence by suspected armed herdsmen has struck Tsekar village, a rural community in the Ukohol area of Nyiev Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area, Benue State. The sudden attack resulted in the death of at least one resident, Mr. Tyough William, and left several others missing as panic and chaos engulfed the community.

In a related assault along the Yogbo-Gungu Aze road, travelling Tiv people were ambushed by herdsmen. While some escaped, a traveller identified as Mr. Udam Dogo remains unaccounted for after family members’ calls to his phone were answered by an unknown voice thought to be one of the attackers, raising fears of abduction or worse.

Security authorities have yet to officially confirm the total casualties or missing persons in these incidents. Deputy Superintendent of Police Udeme Edet, spokesperson for Benue State Police Command, stated no formal report had been received and could not yet verify the details.

These attacks are the latest in a string of deadly confrontations between herders and farming communities in Benue State, a region long plagued by violent disputes over land use and grazing rights. Calls continue from local leaders and civil society for stronger government intervention to protect vulnerable residents and restore peace.

The situation remains tense, with residents fearful for their safety and urgent appeals for security and sustainable conflict resolution ongoing.
