Arteta Aims to Make History and Win Arsenal’s First Champions League Title

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has set his sights on leading the club to its first-ever UEFA Champions League title this season. The Gunners open their campaign on Tuesday evening with an away match against Athletic Bilbao at San Mamés Stadium.

Reflecting on last season’s journey, where Arsenal reached the semi-finals before losing to eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain, Arteta said the experience has made his team stronger and more determined. “We learned a lot from last season. It was painful because of the expectations we created and the deep belief within the club and team that we could win,” Arteta said at the pre-match press conference.

Arteta believes the team now has what it takes to compete with Europe’s elite clubs. “We are good enough to compete against any opposition on the day. The margins are very small, so you need to be at your best from day one to give yourself the best chance of success,” he added.

He emphasized the importance of squad availability in critical moments and the need for a bit of luck when it comes to key decisions and goals. “You need a full squad when it matters most, and the ball has to go in at the right moment with the right decision,” Arteta said.

Despite never having won the Champions League, Arsenal’s rich history and consistent participation underscore the challenge. “Big clubs try many times before they win. In this competition, you fail more often than you succeed. That’s the history of our club, and that’s what we want to change,” Arteta emphasized.

With injuries sidelining key players like Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard, Arteta remains optimistic about the season ahead. “I’m very excited to start fresh in a fantastic stadium and to begin building momentum for a successful campaign,” he said.

Arsenal fans will be hopeful that this season finally brings the elusive Champions League trophy to the club.
