‘As Long as Atiku Is There, Obi Can’t Win ADC Ticket,’ Says Nigerian Man

A Nigerian man has sparked political debate after stating that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi stands little to no chance of clinching the 2027 presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) if Atiku Abubakar remains in the party.

In a video currently circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the man, identified by the username @dammiedammie35, claimed that Atiku’s deep financial influence and political stature would significantly overshadow Obi’s chances during the party’s primary elections.

“Peter Obi will not get that ticket, let’s be honest. As long as Atiku is there, no one can get that ticket,” the speaker declared in the viral clip. “That’s why you hear things like ‘Atiku, step down,’ or ‘Atiku, be the father,’ because everyone knows that as long as he’s still standing, he controls the game.”

He further alleged that primaries within the ADC are likely to be swayed by financial influence, saying, “Once coalition talks break down, there will be primaries, and once that happens, dollar flies. Atiku will win. Obi doesn’t play that kind of game.”

The video has triggered mixed reactions online, with users expressing varied opinions on the political prospects of both men.

One user, @Veronic_TON, wrote: “Calling Obi desperate for pledging 4 years misses the point. It shows focus, not desperation. Politics shouldn’t be a one-man show.”

Another, @fortunateozuyak, suggested that surprises could still emerge: “The man is saying his own cup of tea. In the coming days an announcement will shock the whole country.”

As 2027 approaches, political analysts say the competition within smaller but growing parties like the ADC will be closely watched as Nigerians look for alternatives to mainstream political powerhouses.
