Asisat Oshoala Pays Tribute to Super Falcons Legends Nkwocha, Dede, Chikwelu

Nigerian football icon and Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to three former national team greats Perpetua Nkwocha, Precious Dede, and Rita Chikwelu for their instrumental roles in shaping her career.

Speaking in a post-WAFCON victory interview on Arise News, Oshoala reflected on the legacy of these pioneering women and the impact they had on her journey as a professional footballer.

“Right now, if you Google players with the most goals, you’ll find names like Perpetua Nkwocha,” she said. “They paved the way for someone like me to come into the Super Falcons and enjoy certain things.”

Oshoala went on to mention former goalkeeper Precious Dede and midfield general Rita Chikwelu as other key figures who mentored and inspired her early in her national team journey.

“I was fortunate to play with some of them before they retired,” she added.

Currently playing for Bay FC in the United States, the 30-year-old forward has enjoyed a decorated career that includes stints with Liverpool, Arsenal, and Barcelona. She is a six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year and is widely celebrated as one of the greatest African female footballers of all time.

Her tribute comes on the heels of Nigeria’s recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph in Morocco, marking yet another milestone in her illustrious career.
