Atiku: I’m Staying in PDP, But Coalition Will Challenge APC in 2027

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has denied rumors suggesting he intends to leave the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to female members of the PDP Board of Trustees who visited him to discuss the party’s challenges, Atiku emphasized the importance of forming a broad coalition to challenge the APC in the 2027 elections.

He assured the delegation, led by former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Inna Ciroma, that the coalition effort he is spearheading with other political leaders is not aimed at replacing the PDP but strengthening opposition unity to reclaim and rebuild Nigeria.

Citing historical precedents such as the NPN-NPP alliance of the Second Republic, he expressed confidence that the coalition would deliver positive outcomes without compromising the identity of the PDP.

The women, concerned about the party’s leadership vacuum and ongoing internal crisis, discussed strategies for revitalizing the PDP and improving its structure and funding.

Atiku encouraged them to support the coalition initiative, stressing the need for collective effort to restore stability and direction to the party.
