Atiku Pledges Key Government Roles for Yorubas if Elected President in 2027
Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has pledged that Yoruba people will occupy key positions in his government if he is elected President in 2027.
Speaking through his media consultant, Kola Johnson, Atiku dismissed concerns that his presidency might lead to Hausa-Fulani domination, stressing that his strong personal and family ties with the Yoruba community would shape his governance.
“At the heart of my policies will always be Yoruba interests,” Atiku stated. “I am blessed to have deep roots within this noble ethnic group. My first wife, Titi Atiku Abubakar, is from Ijesa in Osun State. Together, we have four Yoruba children, and she has stood by me for over 75 years. That bond makes the Yoruba my extended family.”
He emphasized that such ties are more than symbolic, noting that Yoruba culture, sophistication, and education have always commanded his respect.
“The Yoruba are highly educated and deeply sophisticated. They have always occupied a special place in my heart, and their voice will remain central to my leadership if, by the grace of God, I am elected in 2027,” he added.
Atiku further praised his wife, describing her as his “jewel of inestimable value” and highlighting how his personal life reflects the unity he hopes to bring into governance.
The former Vice President’s remarks come as political alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with ethnic representation and inclusivity remaining critical issues in Nigeria’s politics.
