Atiku’s Son Mocks Nigerians: ‘Why Angry at Trump When You Elected a Drug Baron?’
Atiku Abubakar’s son, Shehu Abubakar, has stirred strong reactions online after criticizing Nigerians who condemned U.S. President Donald Trump for describing the country as “disgraceful.”
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Shehu argued that Nigerians have no moral standing to be offended by Trump’s remarks, claiming that the nation lost its right to indignation when it “elected a drug baron” as president.
“Why are some people angry that Donald Trump called us disgraceful?” he wrote. “When they announced a drug baron as our President, what do you call that—prideful? It hurts our pride as a nation, but we must first look inward and hold ourselves accountable before blaming outsiders.”
His statement, which has already surpassed 200,000 views, follows Trump’s controversial threat of possible U.S. military action against Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
While many Nigerians have labelled Trump’s words as an insult to national sovereignty, Shehu insisted that the country’s real problem lies within urging citizens to confront the truth about leadership, corruption, and moral decay.
