Babcock University Dismisses Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against VC Aspirant, Warns of Legal Action.
Babcock University has refuted an online publication accusing Vice-Chancellor aspirant, Afolarin Ojewole, of sexual misconduct, describing the allegations as “fabricated, baseless” and a ploy to tarnish the school’s image.
The institution said the claims were aimed at discrediting its transparent process of appointing a new Vice-Chancellor to succeed Prof. Ademola Tayo, whose tenure ends in November.
According to the university, no record, complaint, or disciplinary report exists on the matter, and those behind the story risk facing legal action if the defamatory claims continue.
Babcock dismissed the report as “cheap blackmail,” insisting the story was a product of “reckless imagination” targeted at the Church, the institution, and its leadership selection process.
The publication had alleged that Ojewole was previously sanctioned and that the university was manipulating the process in his favour. Babcock maintained those claims were false and misleading.
In a statement signed by Joshua Suleiman, Director of Marketing and Communication, the university clarified that Ojewole’s 2018 leave was for a family trip to the United States with his wife to support their children, not because of any scandal.
It emphasised that no disciplinary committee was ever set up, and no group, including the so-called “The Apostles Seventh-Day Adventist advocacy group” and its alleged coordinator, Samson Fasasi, had submitted any complaint.
The school stressed that its Governing Council’s 2025 Search Committee is working under strict spiritual, ethical, and legal guidelines to ensure fairness and merit in the selection process.
Babcock warned against spreading falsehoods and reiterated that it reserves the right to pursue legal action to protect its integrity and that of the Church.
The institution urged all candidates and supporters to avoid propaganda and affirmed its commitment to a transparent and fair leadership transition, with a new Vice-Chancellor expected to be announced by December 1, 2025.
