Ballon d’Or Potential: Roberto Di Matteo Tips Cole Palmer for Global Stardom

Cole Palmer’s meteoric rise continues to make headlines, as former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has endorsed the 23-year-old for future Ballon d’Or success.

The Italian tactician likened Palmer’s flair and football intelligence to that of Chelsea legend Eden Hazard, noting that the young forward’s performances are becoming increasingly impossible to ignore.

Palmer’s recent heroics include a brace in the Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain, helping Chelsea clinch their second trophy of the season. Since his 2023 move from Manchester City, the England international has notched an impressive 37 goals in 71 Premier League matches, earning him the title of Chelsea’s most consistent performer.

Di Matteo, who led Chelsea to Champions League glory in 2012, hailed Palmer’s ability to read the game, find space, and create magic in tight situations. According to him, Palmer shares the same game-changing qualities that made Hazard a fan favorite.

He emphasized that while Palmer has the talent, reaching Ballon d’Or heights will also require top-tier achievements, including Champions League glory, Premier League success, and impactful moments with the English national team.

Palmer is expected to rejoin Chelsea’s pre-season in August, with key friendlies against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan lined up. The Blues will kick off the 2025–26 Premier League season against Crystal Palace on August 17, and all eyes will be on the young star as he continues his ascent in world football.
